Dragon Skin Vases
These vases are created using thin slabs of textured dragon skin which are coiled around a square base. They are lifted on coiled feet.
Each vase is individually made so no two are the same. Some are decorated just with underglazes and a clear glaze over the top, others are decorated with a number of coloured glazes, some are decorated with a mixture of both.
I also often raku fire my vases as the process is very enjoyable and the results are so wonderfully unpredictable! My raku fired vases are glazed with a white crackle glaze on the inside and then with a blue or green metallic glaze brushed over the outside. I currently use a rough sawdust to smoke my vases, but often chuck in a bit of something else such as newspaper, straw, leaves or bark chippings for a bit of variety!
